We work in the Țara Călatei/Kalotaszeg bioregion to ensure that farmlands are cared by present and future young organic farmers feeding our region.
What Problems Are We Addressing?
- Biodiversity Loss
Transylvania is a European biodiversity hotspot. Centuries of small-scale, nature-friendly farming shaped its rich ecosystems. But industrial agriculture now threatens these landscapes. Once-abundant hay meadows and traditional farms are vanishing.
- Disappearing Family Farms
Romania loses around 5 small farms every hour. With 70% of farmers over 55 and only 7% under 35, the future of farming is at risk. Young people entering farming face high barriers: lack of land, capital, and support.
- Land Inaccessibility
Land speculation and concentration for agroindustrial developments drive up prices and reduce availability for newcomers into our countryside. This accelerates the shift toward industrial monocultures, which harm ecosystems and local economies.

- Securing Land for Regeneration
ALPA secures abandoned or threatened farms, holds them in trust, and offers affordable long-term access to agroecological farmers.
Our immediate goal?
5 pilot model agroecological farms in the next 5 years.
→ Your 3.5% this year will help secure our first pilot farm in Fildu village—1.3 hectares of compact land plus 7.5 hectares of nearby plots—laying the foundation for a living farm and nature reserve!
- Regenerating Nature with Farming
Our farmers work hand-in-hand with ecologists to restore biodiversity. We invest in:
- Rewilding depleted soils;
- Biodiversity mapping and monitoring (see our Biodiversity Report)
- Tools and infrastructure for ecological farming

- Supporting the Next Generation of Farmers
We match land with young people ready to farm regeneratively. But starting up is expensive.
→ Your redirected tax helps fund their transition: housing, tools, seeds, and livestock. Our first farmer could begin work in 2025—with your help!
- Strengthening the Local Community
We organise educational events, festivals, children’s programmes, and bioregional gatherings. While some are project-funded, others depend fully on private support.
